Quilters Dream 100% Cotton Batting for Quilting

Quilters Dream Batting is a well-regarded brand known for its high-quality, premium quilt batting.

Fat Stitch has thoughtfully selected the Quilters Dream options that are 100% natural and free from plastics and toxic resins and scrims. For this reason we stopped carrying their wool batting which does have a plastic scrim. Our hope is that Quilters Dream finds a nontoxic alternative to their manufacturing process of wool. In the meantime we use and love their 100% cotton and bamboo blend batting which are an absolute DREAM!

They start with the finest quality long staple USA cotton with fibers mechanically cleaned with no chemicals. They then specially card, crosslap and needle punch for unmatched consistency and strength.  They claim to not use scrim, resin or glue – just 100% pure natural cotton.  Do their batting being such a high grade of cotton and have a unique multi-step processing, Quilters Dream Cotton Batting is strong yet exceptionally soft.  

Quilters Dream Cotton Lofts

Available in four lofts from light to heavy. For longarm quilting we recommend a minimum of 4oz. For that reason we don’t stock a lot of the Request Loft, however we would be happy to get it in for you. Call/text 925-504-9490.

Available in White and Natural

• Request Loft–Low loft: Lightweight loft developed with hand quilters in mind because it is ideal for fine detailed micro-stitching.  It’s lightweight makes it easy to handle on your domestic sewing machine. Suitable for longarm quilting when rolling or floating the quilt top. Great for extra light-weight summer quilts, wearables, and any hand quilted projects. Popular for table runners, place-mats, and any project that just needs a thin layer of stable flat batting.  
• Select Loft–4oz–Mid loft: This has all the benefits as Request with the bonus of feeling more substantial. This is why it is the minimum weight we recommend at Fat Stitch unless you have a specific need and preference for a super light-weight batting. The 4oz is also great for hand stitching and machine quilting due to its lovely drape and it still being pretty thin.

Once you move into the thicker lofts, you will see just how delicious these battings are. They are great for wall hangings, heirloom quilts, and that heavy traditional quilt feel. They are also great for adding stability to bag-making projects and other items where you want more thickness for stability. These are not recommended for quilting large quilts on your home sewing machine due to the additional weight you will need to work with. These are fabulous for longarm machine quilting on robust machines like the ones Fat Stitch uses–Innova M28s.

• Deluxe–6oz:  Weighty loft: Provides added warmth and weight offering extra emphasis for your quilting design. Great for machine quilting weighty quilts, wall hangings, bags, craft projects and much more. 
• Supreme–8oz–Heaviest loft–Half pound of cotton per sq yard: Hefty, warm, and dense batting. Great for longarm machine quilting and projects that require extra thickness, weight, and volume. This batting is great for achieving a traditional weight quilt, crafts, bags, and wall hangings.

The good news is that you cannot go wrong on any of Quilters Dream 100% natural batting lofts. They are all lovely.

How to choose what batting size you need for your quilt

Add in the width of your quilt a minimum of 6 inches to calculate how much batting you need for longarm quilting. See example below showing you will need a minimum of three additional inches on all four sides of your quilt top.
